About Choices Counseling Services

Emotional stress, family conflict, and life challenges can make everyday decisions more difficult and relationships more strained. Our team works closely with individuals and families to provide practical counseling support that strengthens emotional health and improves daily life.
At Choices Counseling Services, we focus on professional care, respect for each client, and practical solutions that help people move forward. Our therapists bring strong education, real-world experience, and a commitment to helping individuals and families build healthier and more stable lives.
Our Therapists
Our team includes highly qualified mental health professionals dedicated to helping individuals, couples, and families improve their emotional well-being. Each counselor has completed at least a Master’s degree in counseling, marriage and family therapy, or social work.
All therapists are licensed by the State of New Mexico to provide counseling services independently without supervision. We value professionals who combine strong clinical training with real-life experience. This combination allows our therapists to bring both professional knowledge and practical insight to the counseling process. Our therapists work to create an environment where clients feel heard, respected, and supported.

We’re not just coworkers—we’re friends, too! We believe that laughter, friendship, and a little silliness make us human. While we may not always take ourselves too seriously, we take your well-being very seriously. Behind our professional titles are real people with real lives, real challenges, and a genuine passion for helping others. We’re here to listen, support, and remind you that you don’t have to navigate life’s challenges alone.

Alicia Cancino, LMHC
Hello! My name is Alicia Cancino, and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. I earned my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from New Mexico Highlands University and hold an additional Master’s degree in Human Behavior from National University in San Diego, California. I also gained over two years of hands-on experience while completing my graduate studies.
I specialize in working with adults and adolescents navigating depression, anxiety, trauma, and life’s many challenges. My approach is rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), helping clients identify negative thought patterns, develop healthier perspectives, and build effective coping skills. I provide a supportive, goal-oriented environment where we work together to strengthen emotional well-being, overcome obstacles, and create meaningful, lasting change.
I firmly believe that everyone has the ability to grow, heal, and become the best version of themselves. Through positive affirmations, positive self-talk, and self-compassion, I empower my clients to recognize their strengths, build confidence, and take control of their emotional well-being. My goal is to equip each client with practical tools and strategies they can use to navigate life’s challenges with greater confidence and resilience.
A little about me outside the counseling office: I believe in practicing the same self-care I encourage in my clients! In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, hanging out with my dogs, exploring the outdoors, running, enjoying a good cup of coffee, and attending Zumba classes. I also love challenging myself to step outside my comfort zone, try new experiences, and embrace opportunities for personal growth.
I am passionate about helping individuals recognize their potential, overcome challenges, and build healthier, more fulfilling lives. I look forward to working alongside you as you discover your strengths and take meaningful steps toward lasting emotional well-being.
